Daffodils School Silchar | A premier educational institution of Silchar & Cachar District

Co-Curricular activities in Daffodils School

It is with a feeling of accomplishment I reminisce my association with Daffodils School for long twenty-three years. Fond memories haunt me as we celebrate the 25 years of glory of an institution that has been an inseparable part of my life for the last two decades. I become emotional to describe my feelings for this garden of a school which I have nursed with the affection of a mother. With tender care and dexterity I have cultivated this garden and seen the flowers grow in ecstasy. Today the plants in the garden have flourished and I am delighted to see the flowers blossom year after year spreading its hues and fragrance far and wide.

I have been asked to write on co-curricular activities in the school which have been an integral part of education in this school that is conducive to the growth and development, of child nevertheless the curricular activities. Our emphasis is on the all-round development of the student that is so much necessary for an individual to traverse the avenues of life. It also helps to improve teaching techniques at school, which helps to build a strong relation between the teachers and the students. It gives the students an opportunity to develop particular skills and exhibit their non-academic talents hidden within them, also helps the students, to gain experience by their own learning. It also helps in their personality development and brings out their hidden qualities. Our co-curricular activities are channelized through the four houses of the school which execute the activities time to time according to a plan chalked out at the beginning of the year. Debating competitions, Quizzes, Extempore speech etc. are held at regular intervals to inculcate among the students eloquence, general knowledge and the curiosity to know about the world and contemporary affairs.

We have music, yoga and dance teachers in the school and regular classes are held to hone the talent of students in music and dancing and ameliorate the mental and physical wellbeing of students. Music, dancing and recitation competitions are held as a part of our periodical activities. This training has paid rich dividends as our students earn laurels in different cultural events held in the town time to time. Besides these a number of events like flower-show, Science and Technology exhibition, prize-giving ceremony, teachers’ day function etc are held in the school in which the students participate in large number.

The Biennial function of the school is a mega-event of the school which is a platform that exposes the talents of our children. But the most conspicuous annual event of the school is the “CARNIVAL” that is held in the school on the eve of the Puja Vacation. It is a day-long programme and Book stalls, Food stalls, Art and Craft Stalls are organized by the students. Songs, Dance, recitation fill the atmosphere and everybody makes merry in joy abandon. In the food stalls the culinary art of the students with the co-operation of their parents draw great crowds and the delicacies served sell like hot cakes. This is an economic activity as well and a part of the sale-proceeds is contributed by the students for acts of charity. This is an endeavor of the students towards munificence and over the last few years we have made humble contribution towards Blind School, “Disha”, Janajati Kalyan Parisad, and this year for “Samadrishti” an organization for squint correction. Thus the Daffodils carnival is not only for joy and merriment but it is also an effort towards social welfare.

In fine I would like to say the extra- curricular activities of our school have a great role in moulding our students as capable human beings.
